The Russian military recently uncovered a terrorist sleeper cell that belonged to the outlawed Jama’at Al-Tawheed wal-Jihad in the western part of Siberia’s Tomsk Region, the Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Wednesday.

According to the FSB, the jihadist group was responsible for carrying out attacks in Syria against the government forces, while also recruiting members in the Tomsk Region.

Led by their National Guard and FSB, the Russian military arrested several members of this terrorist group after they discovered the latter was preparing to kidnap the families of pilots currently deployed in Syria.

The FSB said that they were able to track the terrorist group’s movements using Telegram, while also penetrating their cell in the Tomsk Region.
