A Lieutenant with the North Bergen, New Jersey, Police Department has been arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and possession of Cocaine.
According to a Press Release, Lt. Alex J. Guzman, was taken under arrest in East Rutherford on August 11 after local police received a call about a person in a car possibly in need of help on Paterson Avenue near Hackensack Street.
Upon responding to that call, East Rutherford Police found a vehicle matching the description and investigated. After speaking Guzman who was the occupant of that vehicle, Police effected an arrest for DWI. Subsequent investigation also found Guzman to be in possession of "a white powdery substance" believed to be cocaine.
Guzman was issued two motor vehicle summonses, one for DWI, the other for operating a vehicle while in possession of narcotics. He was also issued a Criminal Summons for Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS), a crime of the Third Degree.
According to North Bergen Police, Guzman was immediately suspended in accordance with guidelines set out by the New Jersey Attorney General. The Internal Affairs Division of North Bergen Police notified the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office and proceedings are pending.
