The first blast of significantly colder air reached New York City overnight, dropping the temperature to 34° F, the coldest air since last year.
The National Weather Service has issued a FREEZE WARNING for north eastern New Jersey:
* WHAT...Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 26 expected.
* WHERE...In New Jersey, Hudson, Eastern Essex and Eastern Union
Counties. In New York, New York (Manhattan), Bronx, Richmond
(Staten Island), Kings (Brooklyn), Northern Queens and
Southern Queens Counties.
* WHEN...From midnight tonight to 7 AM EST Saturday.
* IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other
sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor
freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should
be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have
in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-
ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
