President Donald Trump has issued an official notification to Congress in conformity with the WAR POWERS ACT, that he has deployed US Armed Forces to Gabon, on the continent of Africa, with more troops and equipment already on the way.
The President says he is taking these actions to protect American Citizens and National Security Interests in that region because of violent demonstrations which may take place in reaction to Elections which took place on December 30.
The President makes clear he is providing the notice to Congress in conformity with the War Powers Act. That means US Troops ". . . Are, or are reasonably likely to be, in armed conflict."
